ABOUT
A Celebration of Bamboo in Cordillera since 2015
The official Cordillera Bamboo Day is on September 22nd. We set an annual festival around the day with events full of learning and experiences ranging from workshops on bamboo music, architecture, crafts, culinary and more.
With our commitment to revitalizing Indigenous cultures and exploring innovative channels for which culture will thrive, we are continuously designing projects that will not only favor the community people but will also push forward the recognition of culture and the care of the environment. Cordillera Bamboo Day (CBD) was thus created as an avenue for these goals to be achieved. CBD is the brainchild of EDAYA, which was first launched in 2015 following the desire to celebrate bamboo. Essentially, this activity not only allows the appreciation and understanding of the contributions of bamboo not only to the human communities but to the culture as a whole; but it also fosters innovative thinking to encourage young people to devise means by which they could contribute to the society and culture through the bamboo. This shall serve as a tool in reviving parts of the traditional culture, such as music and instruments, and to usher the potential of discovering various ways bamboo can be used. Additionally, this activity will allow us to explore, in the long run, the possibilities and the potential of bamboo as a tool for climate change mitigation and disaster risk reduction efforts.
The idea was inspired by World Bamboo Day on September 18th. Also, in 2022, former President Rodrigo Duterte declared September of every year “Philippine Bamboo Month.”
